Buniayu cave is located in the Kerta Angsana Village, Nyalindung district, Sukabumi Regency, in the Provice of West Java, 4-5 hours drive from the capital city, Jakarta. The name Buniayu derives from two Sundanese words: ‘Buni’ and ‘Ayu’. ‘Buni’ literally translated meaning ‘well-covered or hidden’. While ‘Ayu’ means ‘Beautiful’, thus, Buniayu means Hidden Beauty which is the perfect description of what this cave is all about. Living up to its name, the Buniayu Cave offers surprising beauty hidden beneath the earth which can only be reached through a thrilling caving adventure. Just like an underground natural museum, the cave showcase some of the most fascinating natural structures such as stalactites, stalagmites, flow stones, columns, draperies, gourdams, and a whole lot more. Speleologists and cave enthusiasts often describe Buniayu as a natural laboratory that allows them to learn more about the earth and its development. In all, the Buniayu Cave system comprises three main caves, which are: the Kerek Cave, Wisata Cave, and the Landak Cave.
For the general visitors, general visitors, the Wisata and Landak Caves can be explored by almost anyone and do not require any special preparations. One just needs to wear a comfortable outfit and bring light food and drink. Whereas, the Kerek Cave is a special phenomenon that will take you on a 4-5 hours adventure to explore and requires you to wear all the special gear such as helmet, waterproof outfit, gloves, non-slippery boots, static / dynamic ropes, carabineers, steel ladders, and lamp devices, which an operator must have at hand.
As the area’s chief draw, the Kerek Cave offers all types of exhilarating adventures such as climbing, hiking, and as well as swimming. Your adrenaline will be pumping rapidly as soon as you abseil down the Bibijilan Waterfall with just a rope tied around your waist. You will also need to swim and follow the course of a stream that flows underground for 2,500 meters. While on this river, you will come across some of the most unique and rare critters such as the ancient fresh water shrimp.
Another special feature of the Buniayu Cave is the section known as the cave of eternal darkness. Here, you will not be able to tell day from night. See strange creatures that are transparent and blind for lack of sunlight. The varied types of zones in this long cave will certainly promise an extraordinary experience. While midnight cave exploration which ends in the morning is also another exciting possibility to consider.
Our team will pick you up from the agreed meeting point in the early morning and we will right away head to Sukabumi. We will stop by at the local restaurant for our lunch along our way to Buniayu. We will reach Buniayu basecamp around afternoon. Savour the snacks prepared by the locals welcoming you to Buniayu.
We will start our first session of cave exploration in the late afternoon. Underground Museum, the horizontal cave, is where we will go. After the exploration, we will go back to our basecamp to wash up. Enjoy the free time, hanging or mingling around the campfire, chatting with others while enjoying our dinner prepared by our team.

After breakfast, get ready for our second session of cave exploration at Kerek Cave, a vertical cave. Guided by the professional team of Buniayu, we will be entering the cave vertically by hanging on the rope. Kerek Cave exploration will take about 4-5 hours and while we are in the there, we will be amazed with what we see and find inside the cave. Mind your head or you will be get knocked, crawl in the mud, walk in the water, watch your body balance while walking on the rocks, all those will be your unforgettable life experience. We will end this exploration at Bibijilan Waterfall. Relax and chill in the fresh water before going back to basecamp to wash up and have our lunch.
During the cave exploration, we will be accompanied by a professional team who has international certification in caving. All the caving equipment used has met the safety requirement, so enjoy the caving journey at ease of mind.
